Bhavan's team wins Young World Quiz

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan team comprising K. Anand Vishnu and M. Aravind will represent Kozhikode in the finale of The Hindu Young World Quiz to be held in Chennai on November 25. They came victorious in the regional level competitions here on Thursday pushing the team of St. Joseph's Convent, Kalpetta, comprising Anoop Philip and Melwin James to the second place. Another team from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, comprising Arun Shankar P.J. and Rohit Suresh bagged the third place.

The fourth, fifth and sixth place were bagged by the teams from Devagiri CMI Public School (team members M. Jayakrishnan and M. Jayasankar), Al Farook Residential School (G. Subin and Abdul Wahab) and Silver Hills Higher Secondary School (T.V. Sulyab and P.I. Aswin) respectively.

President of the Kerala Sahitya Academy P. Valsala gave away prizes to the winners. The prizes consisted of trophy and gifts from Penguin Books, G-Tec computers, among others. The first prize winners got a cash prize of Rs.15,000, second prize winners took home Rs.12,000 and third prize winners, Rs.10,000. The fourth, fifth and sixth prize winners got Rs.2,000 each.

More than 400 students from around 75 schools took part in the preliminary round from which six teams were selected to the finals. The show was hosted by noted quiz master V.V. Ramanan.

The title sponsors of the competition are Velammal Educational Trust. Pepsodent is the associate sponsor while Aqua Sure, Black Thunder, Gold Winner, Penguin books, Yobykes, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd, Cherry Blossom, Reynolds, Encyclopaedia Britannica and Firefox are the national sponsors. Tata Nano is the Car Sponsor while Hi-Lite builders Private Ltd and G-Tec Computer Education are the Regional Sponsors. Food and refreshment was provided by Ojin bakes. ‘i Ads and Events' is the event manager for the event.
