‘Economic progress will ensure harmony in society’
N.R.Narayana Murthy, chairman emeritus, Infosys Limited, and Chairman of National Payments Corporation of India, has called upon corporate sector to be most competitive in the world. Addressing a meeting of bankers on ‘leadership by example’, here on Saturday, he said leaders have to create hope by setting examples of sacrifice, courage and conviction.
A leader is one who creates extraordinary vision and enthuses others to realise the dreams.
Leaders should be able to generate aspirations that will transcend several generations.
Leadership is about new ideas and it requires sacrifices and hard work to achieve the goals. Every Indian has to make sacrifices today to set a bright future for coming generations, he said.
Mr.Murthy underlined the need for economic progress to ensure harmony in the society.
The country has made tremendous progress in the past, but it is worrisome that millions of people earn meagre sums as low as Rs.32 a day, according to the country’s own statistics.
Creating more jobs and better income is the way to removing hunger and ill-health from every part of the country. Only true leadership can bring in the change, he said. A.P.Hota, Managing Director, NPCI; Salim Gangadharan, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India; Shyam Srinivasan, MD, Federal Bank; P.G.Jayakumar, MD, Dhanlaxmi Bank; and C.V.George, president, Bankers’ Club, Kochi, and others spoke.
Only true leadership can bring in change, says chairman emeritus of Infosys.
