Nine more stories of Vaikom Mohammed Basheer have been translated into Konkani language. Titled ‘Basheeraalyo Kaniyo,’ the book is being published by Konkani Sahithya Akademi established by the State government last year.
The book will be released on June 3 at a function at Saraswati Kalakunj on Link Road here. Minister for Culture K.C. Joseph will inaugurate the function. M.P. Veerendrakumar, Socialist Janata (Democratic) leader, will release the book. The stories were translated into Konkani by R.K. Rao.
Payyannur Ramesh Pai, chairman of Konkani Sahithya Akademi will preside. Basheer’s stories that are being published in Konkani are: Jeevithathinte Nizhalpaadukal, Poovanpazham, Viswavikhyathamaya Mookku, Pavappettavarude Veshya, Amma, Kayyamam, Maranathinte Nizhalil, Ayishakutty, and Viddikalude Swargam. Two novels by Basheer, “Ntuppuppaakkoranendaarnnu” and “Mathilukal,” were translated into Konkani earlier.
