KOLLAM: Staff of the Bank of Baroda went on a nationwide strike on Monday to register protest against the sale of public sector bank shares in the share market.

The strike was under the auspices of the Bank Employees' Federation of India (BEFI). A statement from the district unit of BEFI said that the strike was total in the district.

As part of disinvestment measures, 36 per cent of the bank shares were already in private hands. Added to this, the Central Government and the Reserve Bank of India were now making attempts to sell another 11 per cent.The striking workers in the district gathered in front of the Kollam branch of the bank.. District secretary of BEFI M. Suresh and district secretary of AIBEF M.M. Ansari spoke.
