To review prospects, opportunities of Kozhikode in sector

As part of reviewing the city’s prospects in the IT sector and the investment opportunities in the two emerging IT parks, a team of experts representing prominent IT firms in Bangalore visited the city on Friday and held discussions with people’s representatives, potential entrepreneurs, and heads of various professional educational institutions.

The delegates also attended the opening day sessions of a two-day seminar on IT development that began at Kadavu resorts here on Friday and shared their views on investment opportunities in Kozhikode’s IT sector.

The team came to the city as part of the Global Initiative for Restructuring Environment and Management (GIREM), an industry body focussed on sustainable urban development.

GIREM coordinators said the discussions would focus on the theme ‘Connect Calicut’ with specific emphasis on urban planning process, finding business eco partners, business socio infrastructure, energy, water, waste management, transportation, roads, flyovers, and airport.

It would also seek the possibilities of resolving infrastructural challenges and look at creating sustainable business ecosystem.

On the first day, the conference also invited the participation of city planners, office and industrial space occupiers, infrastructure developers, service providers, property advisors, and urban building technology providers. Discussions would continue on Saturday too before the team leaves for Kochi.

“Our vision is to work closely with the State government and the industries in cities to create a suitable platform for 21st century urban infrastructure,” said Shyam Sundar S. Pani, president of GIREM.

P. Gopinath, Chief Executive Officer of the UL Cyber Park stated that Kozhikode would always offer wonderful opportunities for IT companies to set up operations in an untapped market with good talent pool.
