KOLLAM: Revolutionary Socialist Party (Baby John) leader Shibu Baby John has said that the State government decision to ban private practice by government doctors is a conspiracy to help the private sector.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Shibu said the ban would result in good doctors leaving the government sector.

He alleged that the priority of the government was to make money by any means. The ban on private practice connoted this as the private sector stood to gain much from it. Even when E.M.S. Namboodiripad and E.K. Nayanar were chief ministers, such a ban was not imposed, he said.

‘No commitment’

Mr. Shibu alleged that the RSP comprised a few leaders who craved power. They had no commitment to the people. The majority of the cadres in the RSP wanted to leave the Left Democratic Front. He invited such cadres to join the RSP(B).

While RSP State secretary V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai had stated that the RSP could not be kept bottled, the fact was contrary right from the time of the last Lok Sabha elections when its demand for the Kollam seat drew a blank, Mr. Shibu said.

He alleged that the RSP sacrificed its ideologies before the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) when it toed the stand of the latter to oppose the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal to uphold Chinese interests promoted by the CPI(M).

In the past, the RSP had strongly opposed the wrong stance of the Communist parties over the Indo-China war, Mr. Shibu pointed out.
