Ending the months-long self-imposed political exile, Padmaja Venugopal, daughter of veteran leader K. Karunakaran, returned to the political scene of the State.

Ms. Venugopal chose the occasion of the merger of Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) with the Nationalist Congress Party in Kochi to stage her political reappearance.

Her silence during the formation of DIC(K) by breaking away from Congress had set the rumour mills working overtime. There were speculations that Ms. Venugopal was opposed to the floating of the new party. However, she never clarified her stand. Now that she has made her stand clear, it is to be seen how she will be accommodated in the new party.
