CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and former education minister M.A. Baby has said that being a man in today’s society was a matter of shame.

He was addressing the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi hall here on Sunday.

“The human mind is filled with dark motives. Writers and artistes should come forward to clean the polluted mind of society,” he said. The society considers woman as a commodity, he noted. “We, who are proud of our cultural heritage, are responsible for creating such a criminal society. So each of us has the moral responsibility to find a solution for the crisis,” he added.

Poet Sachidanandan, percussion maestro Matannur Sankaran Kutty and writer C. Radhakrishnan were honoured at the function.

Writer Vaisakhan presided over.

Kerala Sahitya Akademi’s former vice-president Balachandran Vadakkedath, K.P. Sankaran and Murali Perunnely spoke.

Get-together of writers, readers and performing artistes were held as part of the celebration. A poetry reading session and meeting of film personalities were also held.
