A newborn baby boy found on Friday night in ‘Ammathottil', a cradle for abandoned children, at the Jubilee Mission Medical College and Research Institute, was named after Pope John Paul II on Saturday.

Vicar General Raphael Vadakkan named the baby.

The baby, three days old and weighing 2.1 kg, was found around 9 p.m.

It was the first time that a baby was found in the cradle after it was installed at the hospital.

Kerala State Child Welfare Council officials will examine the baby on Monday.
