Thiruvananthapuram: State Bank of India, in association with the State NSS Cell, Club 25 and Terumo Penpol, is planning to celebrate World Blood Donor Day on June 12 by rewarding institutions and individuals who have made remarkable contribution to voluntary blood donation. A function will be held at the Vylopilly Samskrithi Bhavan at Nanthencode to honour the donors.
A press note issued by the organisers said the criterion for the best male donor award would be a maximum of four donations in the year 2008 while that for the best female donor would be a maximum of three donations. There will be prizes for those who have donated more than 50 times, between 25 and 50 times, and more than 10 times.

World Blood Donor Day focusses on the lifesaving gift of voluntary unpaid blood donors who donate blood purely for altruistic reasons.
The World Blood Donor Day theme for the year 2009 is ‘Achieving 100 percent voluntary non-remunerated donation.’
