KOCHI: The State region of the National Child Development Council has announced awards for the year 2008 for best stories on child welfare, child education and issues faced by children that appeared in print and the electronic media.

The award for best series in print was given to the one of exploitation of children, published in Malayala Manorama from November 13 to 18, 2008. P. Sajikumar, chief sub-editor, Malayala Manorama, Thiruvananthapuram; M.M. Sujith, senior sub-editor, Kannur; and T.S. Divya, sub-editor, Thrissur, will be given the award. The photograph by P.J. Shelly, Kerala Kaumudi, Kozhikode, published on October 20 has been adjudged as the best news photograph. P. Vijayan, chief sub-editor, Desabhimani, Kozhikode, has been selected as the best report in print media for the article published on August 8.

B.J. Pradeep, bureau chief, Jeevan TV, Kochi, is given the award for best television reporting for the report on children rescued from a street circus and telecast on November 14.
