PALAKKAD: An international literary award and an art and cultural centre will be set up in memory of Malayalam writer the late O.V. Vijayan.
An international literary award will be instituted in his name for the best work on humanism from any language which will be presented every three year.
The first international award will be announced soon in New Delhi where O.V. Vijayan worked in various newspapers as cartoonist and wrote some of his best books.
The award will be instituted by Shanthigiri Research Foundation, Shanthigiri Ashramam, Thiruvananthapuram.
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, B. Jayakumar, assistant general manager (projects) of the foundation, and Madhupal, film actor, said an art and cultural centre in memory of the great writer will be constructed at Thasrak village, near here, where he lived as a teacher and got inspiration for writing ‘Khasakinte Ithihasam (The Legend of Khasak).
A lecture series on the literary works of O.V. Vijayan will be organised in Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram and New Delh.
The first lecture series will be inaugurated at Thasrak on June 8 by social critic Sukumar Azhikode.
