The Kalpetta police on Thursday arrested two youths in connection with a robbery case here on Wednesday night.

Those arrested were identified as Krishnaprasad, 28, of Vettiyattil and Riyas, 24, of Kanjirapparambil at Velooppadom in Thrissur district.

Circle Inspector K. Shareef said the youths attacked gold ornament seller Sebi, 25, with a sword near the BSNL office here on Wednesday night and robbed him of nearly 400 grams of gold ornaments and Rs.1.5 lakh in cash. While the culprits were trying to escape in a car after the robbery, the vehicle rammed a tree near the Ayyappa temple here and they were admitted to the taluk hospital here. The police nabbed them from there.

Knowing that the Ollur-based Sebi would visit the district every Wednesday, they planned the attack. They were arrested on charges under Sections 392 (robbery) and 394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code. They will be produce before the First Class Magistrate Court here late evening.
