NEDUMBASSERY: In order to enhance the security cover and create a friendly atmosphere to promote tourism, three city-side police assistance counters have been set up at the Cochin International Airport.

The facility was formally inaugurated by Shriram Bharath, managing director of the airport company, on Thursday.

The counters located at the domestic arrival area and the international arrival and departure areas will be manned by personnel of the Kerala Police round-the-clock.

The counter staff will be given wireless communication sets and coordinate their activities with the police aid post at the airport.

Besides, the movement of VIPs through the airport will also be coordinated by the assistance counters in association with airport officials and other agencies in charge of security.

Duties assigned

Crowd control in front of the terminal gates for smooth passenger movement, regulating vehicular traffic, grievances redressal of the travelling public, safeguarding the airport area from anti-social elements, touts etc., preventing the entry of illegal auto and taxi operators on the airport premises are some of the duties assigned to the assistance counters.

Aluva Rural ASP Vikramjit Singh, Airport Director A.C.K. Nair, CISF Commandant K.C. Suresh Kumar were among those who attended the inaugural function.
