The State Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed three bills related to Payment of Salaries and Allowances and payment of pension to members of legislature. The Payment of Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill seeks to introduce a provision the original bill providing for continuation of assistants of legislators in service of the member even after promotion to the rank equivalent to an under secretary to government and above. It also seeks to bring in a provision enabling the appointment of an officer below the rank equivalent to an under secretary to Government. Earlier, MLAs could appoint assistants who were not above the rank of selection grade assistant in the Government secretariat. The Payment of Salaries and Allowances (Second Amendment) Bill, seeks to enhance various allowances of MLAs. — Special Correspondent
