: A suspected activist of the Popular Front of India (PFI) who was stabbed in an attack by three persons on May 1 died at a hospital in Mangalore, on Tuesday.

Ali Akbar, 23, a resident of Kolavayal, who was admitted to a private hospital succumbed to his injuries at 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday, the police said.

The police have arrested the persons who allegedly assaulted him. They had been charged under IPC Section 307 (Attempt to murder).

Buses attacked

In a development that is suspected to be a retaliatory act, to avenge the youth's death, two buses were smashed by unidentified persons near Chithari early on Wednesday, a senior police official said. While a Mangalore-bound superfast KSRTC bus from Ernakulam was targeted in Madiyan locality at 4.30 a.m., a private bus parked at a nearby petrol bunk also came under attack from the miscreants, the police said. An investigation is on, the police said.
