Aryankavu Pooram, the biggest festival of Malabar region and a rare one in which elephants are not used, will conclude on Thursday with its unique ‘Kuthiravela.’, a colourful procession carrying the motifs of horses.

The motifs would be decorated with tender coconut leaves and flowers, said the Pooram celebration committee president O. P. Govindankutty. The festival is now conducted jointly by the erstwhile Kavalappra Mooppil Nair family and the people of 96 deshams.

It is only in this temple that the story of Ramayana from the birth of Sree Rama till his coronation is enacted in the form of ‘Tholpavakoothu’ during the festival. On the concluding day of the festival, 14 horses from different deshams get assembled in front of the temple.
