PATHANAMTHITTA: The Devi Bhagavatha Sathram, a 10-day spiritual retreat based on Devi Bhagavathom, began at the Pattupurakkavu Devi temple at Pandalam on Wednesday. The Devi Bhagavatha Sathram is the first of its kind to be held in the State. Chennaas Dinesan Namboodiri, Tantri at Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple, inaugurated the event. T.R. Ramanathan from North Paravur is the Yajnacharya.

Tantri Devan Krishnan Namboodiri performed the Ashtadravya Maha Ganapati Homom on Thursday.

Seeravalli Krishnan Namboodiri, T.R.Ramanathan, Sanskrit scholars, and K.P.Sasikala, Hindu Aikyavedi president, delivered religious discourses. A classical music concert by Chennai Vijayalakshmi Subramaniyam was held in the evening.

The former Sabarimala Melsanthi Narayanan Vishnu Namboodiri will perform the Ashtadravya Maha Ganapati Homom on Friday morning.

Midhunappally Vasudevan Namboodiri, Eramalloor K.K.Ilayathu and Raman Namboodiri will deliver discourses on Devi Bhagvathom on Friday.

A ‘Sarpa bali' will be held at the Sathram venue on Saturday evening. Sreenivasan Embran, head of Ananthankadu Nagaraja Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, will perform the ritual.

P.K.Narayana Panicker, Nair Service Society general secretary, will inaugurate the valedictory function.
