KOCHI: Co-ordination between hospitals with elaborate heart care departments can bring about manufacture of grafts, stents and other necessary items important in treating cardiac ailments which would drastically bring down the cost of treating heart diseases, said K. M. Cherian, renowned cardiac surgeon, while inaugurating the first State-level workshop on cardiology here.

He said that the cost is unaffordable to the common man as most of the items used in this treatment are imported. “Modern advances in treatment of heart diseases” was the theme of the workshop organised by Little Flower Hospital.

The workshop was presided over by Fr. Sebastian Vadakumppadan, director, Little Flower Hospital. Cardiologist Jose Chacko Periappuram was the main speaker.
