Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Thursday that all homeless and landless families in the State would be given houses over the next two years.

Speaking after inaugurating a Rs.5.15-crore integrated development project taken up by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and the government of Kerala, he said a major exercise was under way to provide houses for the needy.

“As many as 228 houses will be constructed under a slum improvement project. Financial assistance for repair of houses and treatment is another major scheme.”

Mr.Achuthanandan said the State had registered significant achievement in development and welfare activities. “Pension and welfare fund have been extended to all sections of society. Suicide by farmers has come down drastically. The government has succeeded in holding the price line through effective market intervention. We have also improved the infrastructure in the tourism and IT sectors,” he said.
