KOLLAM: A man who posed himself as an officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was nabbed by the Punalur police on Wednesday morning.
The accused was identified as Rajesh Chandran of Pathanapuram, residing near Kottarakara. He was seen in Punalur town since the last one month getting himself introduced to rich businessmen by flaunting a CBI identity card and sometimes whipping out a pistol too. The identity card with photo showed his name as Sudesh Sankar Iyer, CBI officer in the rank of Superintendent of Police.
He kept telling the businessmen that his mission was to find ideal candidates from Kerala to join the CBI. But he should be paid for getting the candidates appointed. The demand was Rs.2.5 lakh for each appointment.
What appeared intriguing to some of the businessmen was that he kept buying second hand mobile phones with the SIM cards.
On Wednesday, while engaged in talks with a businessman, the police were tipped off without his knowledge.
When the police arrived, he took to his heels but was nabbed by the police.
