THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A separate investigation wing will be set up at all police stations in the city limits in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode in order to separate investigation from law and order. The decision was taken by the State government on the basis of a directive of the Supreme Court.

Those personnel posted in the investigation wing based on their expertise and qualification will not be deployed for other duties. An officer in the rank of Sub-Inspector will head the investigation wing in each police station and he will be designated as SI-Investigation Wing.

All the personnel in the police station, including those in the investigation wing, will be under the control of the Principal SI. The Superintendent of Police can deploy the personnel in the investigation wing for law and order duties in case of emergency. In case of natural disaster and accidents, the Station House Officer can deploy officers in the investigation wing for such duties after securing clearance of higher-ups.

The investigation wing has been assigned the task of carrying out the investigation of cases quickly and on a time-bound manner.

The personnel in the wing will be in uniform during duty hours. A release said the officers who received information about crime or other incidents should rush to the spot to take further action. The officers in the investigation wing should intervene in any law and order situation that takes place in his presence till other officers arrive at the spot.
