KOCHI: The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act would improve the lives of villagers by ensuring job and additional income to them, D. Pappachan, Principal District Sessions judge, has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the one-day workshop on the Act, organised by the District legal Services Authority, for the beneficiaries of Cheranallor and Kadamakudi panchayats here on Tuesday.

Though there is an argument that the right to employment should be made part of the fundamental rights, governments would find it difficult to guarantee jobs to all. However, the Act guarantees 100 days of employment for every family. B. Vijayan, principal sub-judge, Ernakulam; M.A. Mathew, president, Cheranallur village panchayat; K.A.
