Engineers’ federation raises demands

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Engineers’ Federation, a confederation of the organisations of engineers of various departments, has demanded the inclusion of the engineers in the service of the State government in the professional and scientific category, raising their retirement age and sanctioning the salary and service conditions enjoyed by engineers in Union government service to them.

The annual conference of the federation here on Friday urged the government to exert pressure on the Centre to enact the engineers Bill that was before the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. It also asked the State government to implement the Kerala Professional Act along the lines of the law enacted by other states.

The meeting elected P.K. Rajeev of the Public Works Department chairman; V. Vimal Prakash of the Electrical Inspectorate secretary general; K.P. Haranbabu of the Water Resources Department, K.P. Krishnakumar of the Kerala Water Authority and K.S. Jayachandrakumar of the Local Self-government Department vice-chairmen; S. Vinayakumar of the Kerala Water Authority, Maju Balakrishnan of the Water Resources Department and C.L. Lal of the Agricultural Engineering Department as secretaries; and D. Vinayan of the Water Resources Department; as treasurer.
