Kozhikode: M.K. Raghavan, MP, has reacted strongly to the move to establish a premium parking area at Kozhikode railway station where the parking fee would be Rs. 300 per day. Mr Ragahavan has written to Deepak Kishan, General Manager, Southern Railways, expressing shock at the proposed hike in parking fee.
“The Indian Railways, one of the biggest rail networks in the world, should bear in mind the predicament of ordinary people … The spirit of avarice shown by the Railways in making modifications in parking rules should give way to more passenger friendly measures,” he said.
The car parking area which was available for Rs. 60 a day had been, without prior announcement, declared a premium parking area with the intention of charging Rs. 300 a day.
The “ordinary parking area” which is used by the general public is at the south end of the railway station which is half a kilometre from the entrance. No levelling work had been undertaken in the new parking area, the MP pointed out in his letter.
