KOCHI: Mediation will help reduce the work load of courts and will enable people to gain confidence in the legal system, Supreme Court judge, Justice R.V. Raveendran, said on Saturday.
Litigants are resorting to ‘extra-judicial’ methods to find solutions to their issues as they are afraid of inordinate delays in the legal system, Justice Raveendran said in his inaugural address at the State-wide inauguration of mediation at a function at the Kerala High Court.
He said people are afraid to go to the courts due to various reasons including the inordinate delays, uncertainty and huge expenses.
Mediation is a ‘win-win’ situation as both parties win while in litigation only one party wins, he said.
Mediation will result in more cases being disposed of. Law Minister S. Vijaykumar said mediation has the sanction of the legislature and administrative support. Supreme Court judges Cyriac Joseph and K.S. Radhakrishnan also spoke. — PTI
