KOCHI: Local agencies, be it government or non-government, will have a greater role in addressing local issues.

The response of Union or State governments to these issues will always be remote, said T.K.A. Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. He was speaking after accepting the ‘For the Sake of Honour’ award, given by the Rotary Club of Cochin here on Saturday.

Agencies like Rotary, which act locally with a global perspective, can play a vital role in making life tolerable and more liveable to many lesser privileged amongst us. Part of the problems faced by our society is caused by the global developments. These will be addressed by the government.

Rotary president Algiers Khalid presented the award. District Governor K.K. Mathews; K. Anand, director, vocational services; Naveen Philip, secretary; V.N. Venugopal, past president; and Venugopal C. Govind, past district governor, spoke.
