Finding a hospital, a college, a tourist destination or even an internet cafe in the Malabar region becomes easy with this website.

www.inmalabar.org, in the beta version at the moment, will soon become a full-fledged site with interesting features, besides being an online guide.

V.K. Prasoon and A.P. Shybu from Kozhikode and M. Sumesh from Thiruvananthapuram, who developed the website, says it will be a complete “click-away” guide to the region.

It can help a user easily spot contact persons and numbers of a range of organisations, operators, institutions, destinations and professionals in diverse sectors from the region, they say. “Your search for Malabar ends here,” goes the slogan.

The site, which aims to cover the six districts of Malabar from Kasaragod to Palakkad, will focus on Kozhikode to start with.

“We already have more than 700 active pages dedicated to various entries from the region, which is created by fully adhering to the Search Engine Optimisation procedure to get maximum visibility,” Mr. Sumesh says.

The portal aims to give photos, graphics and even videos of most of their entries. The famed football craze of Malabar, especially Kozhikode, has got an entry on the site, with pictures, details of funfairs and up-to-date information about the matches and results of the World Cup finals taking place in South Africa.

“We strictly and professionally update the site,” Mr. Shybu says. Eight persons have been employed for the purpose.

The three had started a software company, ‘Fibits,' in January.

“The site is our first product,” say the young entrepreneurs, who teamed up to form the company while working in a private firm in Thiruvananthapuram.

The site aims to promote “Brand Malabar,” which, they say, is yet to be explored from several perspectives.

The portal will redefine the characteristics of a conventional local search engine to a futuristic search engine by promoting even shops and outlets of the region by providing customised and enterprise-specific information to the users, they say.

The team, which had earlier created the website for the upcoming UL Cyber Park in Kozhikode, has plans to bring out a cellphone version of the site, which is yet to be launched officially.

“The site is currently using a 3-gb space at the moment, which will soon be upgraded to 100-gb,” they say.
