KOLLAM: The first death anniversary of the former Minister Baby John will be observed by the Revolutionary Socialist Party (Baby John) from January 25 to 31.

As part of the week-long observation, commemoration meetings will be held at various parts of the State.

At a press conference here on Saturday, the party leaders said Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had been selected as the best public figure for the maiden Baby John Memorial Award.

The award will be presented to Mr. Chatterjee at a function to be held at Chavara on March 3.

The anniversary observation in Ernakulam will be inaugurated by the former judge of the Supreme Court V.R. Krishna Iyer. The function will be addressed by Fisheries Minister S. Sarma.

From January 26 to 31 commemoration meetings will be held at all district headquarters. January 29 will be observed as Baby John Day.

Assembly Speaker K. Radhakrishnan will lay the foundations for the Baby John Memorial at his birth place at Neendakara.

The function in this connection will be presided over by Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran.

Earlier in the day, a free medical camp will be organised at Vadakumthala DVLP School.

The camp will be inaugurated by Education Minister M.A. Baby. Activists of the Revolutionary Youth Front (B) will also donate blood at the District Hospital.

Blood donation will be inaugurated by District Collector A. Shajahan.
