Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president V. Muraleedharan on Sunday demanded a top-level investigation by the State police into the death of a Bihar youth who tried to attack Mata Amritanandamayi.

The man, identified as Satnam Singh, reported to be mentally disturbed, was found in an exhausted condition in his cell at Peroorkada Mental Health Centre in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday night. He was rushed to the Medical College Hospital, but died there. Referring to news reports that said Satnam had rushed at the spiritual leader shouting religious slogans during a prayer meeting on Wednesday at the Vallikkavu Ashram, Mr. Muraleedharan claimed that local investigating agencies had acted with undue haste to dismiss the youth as a mentally disturbed person without conducting a detailed probe into his antecedents.

He said there had been no investigation so far on whether Satnam had any communal or terror links. “The suspicion that there has been a cover-up has increased with his death, which occurred even before he could be questioned,” he said in a press meet here.
