Rs.12.21-crore increase in land tax and revenue recovery

Rs.4,759.12 crore collected as commercial

tax till January 31

Earnings of Motor Vehicles Department

fall by Rs.6.62 crore

KOCHI: The district has registered an increase of Rs.620.24 crore in tax and non-tax revenue collection by various departments till January 31 in this fiscal in comparison to what was earned during the same period in the last fiscal. The increase in land tax and revenue recovery alone came to the tune of Rs.12.21 crore.

This became clear at the district revenue mobilisation meet and the revenue recovery review meeting chaired by District Collector M. Beena. Till January 31, the commercial taxes collected stood at Rs.4,759.12 crore, an increase of Rs.75.64 crore over the last fiscal. The Forest Department amassed Rs.22.90 crore through the auction of forest products. Last year this was Rs.18.47 crore.

The Excise Department collected Rs.29.60 crore as against Rs.26.34 crore during the same period in last fiscal. Significantly, the earnings of the Motor Vehicles Department dropped by Rs.6.62 crore. Similarly, revenue from registration and stamp duties dropped by Rs.13.97 crore and Rs.84.32 crore and that from lotteries by Rs.7.57 crore.

Revenue from the National Savings Scheme showed a drastic drop of Rs.107.17 crore.

Mining and Geology Department earned Rs.2.5 crore more than what it earned till January 31 in the last fiscal. Land tax revenue increased from Rs.11.87 crore to Rs.13.15 crore, a growth rate of 10.73 per cent. Revenue recovery earnings stood at Rs.49.57 crore as on January 31.

Warns of action

Dr. Beena warned officials of serious action against failure in resource mobilisation and tax collection and called for more intensive efforts to maximize the revenue during the remaining days of the prevailing fiscal. P. Indiradevi, Deputy Collector (Revenue Recovery) also attended the meeting.
