The State government will shortly introduce a health insurance scheme for the welfare of Fire and Rescue Service personnel in the State, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said on Monday.
He was speaking after unveiling a memorial constructed by the Kerala Fire Service Association at the fire station in Vadakara.
Mr. Radhakrishnan said the government would seriously consider a proposal for appointing a commission to study the issues of the Fire and Rescue Service wing in the State. “Hereafter, their training period will be counted with the total service period,” he said. C.K. Nanu, MLA, presided over the function.
The monument was unveiled in memory of three firemen who lost their lives during a rescue operation in 2002. K.K. Rajan, M. Jaffer and B. Ajith Kumar met with the accident while they were trying to save labourers who got trapped inside a well when digging.
