M.T. Vasudevan Nair has agreed

to re-work

the script of ‘Neelathamara’ that he wrote years ago.

KOCHI: A few young directors are making an attempt to bring a change in the Malayalam film industry famous for its multi-crore super star projects.

The year 2009 might turn out to be different, thanks to the line of six Malayalam films getting ready for ushering in a new face to the ailing industry.

Director Lal Jose is taking the lead in this revival path. He is lucky to have received the support of none other than M.T. Vasudevan Nair in the new venture.

The veteran scenarist has agreed to re-work the script of ‘Neelathamara’, the movie he worked on for director Yusufali years ago.

The settings and characters will be set in the contemporary mode but the genius of the master craftsman will remain in the latest version, according to its makers.

Produced by G. Sureshkumar under the banner of Revathi Kalamandir, ‘Neelathamara’ will have new faces in lead roles. Both Lal Jose and Sureshkumar have begun the hunt for the stars in the movie.

Vidyasagar will lend music for the movie to be shot in Kuttipuram from next month. Mr. Sureshkumar, who is also president of the Kerala Film Producers’ Association, said that the budget of the six movies would be fixed at Rs. 1.5 crore each.

Lal Jose said that the decision by the producers to support low budget movies was a welcome step. Even though the budget has been cut down, there would be no compromise on the technical and other aspects of the projects, he said.

Director Kamal will direct and also pen the script for the second movie. Scenarist A. K. Sajan will join hands with director Shaji Kailas for the third movie to be produced by Sasi Ayyanchira. Writer-turned-director Renjith will call the shots for the fourth venture. He will also produce the movie.

Rafi–Mecartin combine will write the screenplay and direct the fifth venture. They will also make the movie under the banner of MHM Productions. Producer Sabu Cherian and director B. Unnikrishnan will come together for the sixth project.
