`People's pleas will be made LDF policies'

KOLLAM: State secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the United Democratic Front Government has shelved the Narendran Commission Report. Mr. Vijayan was talking to presspersons at Bharanikavu, near here, while leading the Kerala March for the second day in Kollam district.

He said that if the Government failed to implement the report, and if the Left Democratic Front came to power after the Assembly elections, a decision would be taken to implementing it. The CPI(M) was one of the first to welcome the report.

Noting that the neither the CPI(M) nor the LDF had started discussing election-related issues, he said the Kerala March has instilled hope in people, and, for the development of the State, they had started looking upon the party and the front. Hundreds of petitions had been submitted to him during the march. These petitions highlighted the plight of people. The problems cited in the petition could influence the policies of the party.

"If we are in a position to form the next Government, we will try implementing some of those pleas as LDF policies,'' he said.

Mr. Vijayan said that if the Congress was sincere in its anti-BJP rhetoric, that party should end its tie-ups with the Bharatiya Janata Party in some of the local bodies.

P.K. Gurudasan, Centre of Indian Trade Unions general secretary, P. Rajendran, MP, and CPI(M) district secretary K. Rajagopal were present.
