KOCHI: Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) Registrar A. Ramachandran said here on Thursday that he had to resign from the post of treasurer of the International Education Meet (IEM) as the post was not made official through a Government order.

Dr. Ramachandran had faced criticism from the university syndicate for relinquishing the post. A syndicate meeting on Wednesday held a special discussion on the issue.

Denying reports that the syndicate had decided to approach the Government for his removal as Registrar, Dr. Ramachandran said that such an item was not on the agenda of the special syndicate meeting held on Wednesday.

The meet was convened to discuss the issue of election of a SFI representative as general secretary of the Cochin University Union and various steps to be initiated in view of the forthcoming international education meet.

Dr. Ramachandran said the executive committee for the meet had nominated him as treasurer. But the Government order issued in connection with the meet mentioned that the Cochin University Registrar would be the convener of the meet.

Dr. Ramachandran said that it was not possible for him to operate public money without getting an official sanction. He denied having any difference of opinion with the Vice-Chancellor.
