THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The annual festival of the Sreekrishna temple at Guruvayur will be held from March 2 to 19. With the noble intention of taking precaution for ensuring sanctity in all tantric rites and pujas connected with the festival children below five years will not be admitted into the "Nalambalam" of the temple during the period. Ordinance gets Governor's assent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Handloom Workers Welfare Cess Ordinance has received the Governor's assent. It provides for the levy and collection of cess on the sale proceeds of yarn, textile or textile products with a view to augmenting the resources of the Kerala Handloom Workers Welfare Fund Board. - Special Correspondent

KRL quiz finalists

KOCHI: The National Institute of Technology, Kozhikode; School of Indian Legal Thought, Kottayam; College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, and Union Christian College, Aluva are the top four teams that have made it to the finals of the KRL All Kerala Inter Collegiate Quiz being organised as part of the Oil And Gas Conservation Fortnight between January 16 and 31. Veterinary admission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The application forms for the All India Common Entrance Examination for admission to BV Sc & AH Course for 2006 is available at the State Veterinary Council at Peroorkada here. The application fee of Rs.700 for general category and Rs.350 for SC/ST category is payable through a DD drawn in favour of 'Veterinary Council of India payable in New Delhi.' Selected for award

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: P.N.Murali, the author of "Gurudeva charitham," has been selected for this year's award of the Sree Narayana Academy. He was selected by a committee chaired by Vellayani Arjunan and consisting of Kilimanoor Ramakanthan, M. Sathyaprakasam, Vijayalayam Jayakumar and S.Suvarnakumar. The award, which consists of a citation and a cash prize of Rs.5,001, will be presented to Mr. Murali by the former Chief Minister A.K.Antony at the anniversary celebrations of the Academy to be held in the VJT Hall here on January 28. - Special Correspondent

PWD employees association plea

KOZHIKODE: The Public Works Department (PWD) Electrical Executive Employees Association, Kozhikode committee, at its regional conference here called for proper functioning of lifts and generators installed by the PWD at the medical college, general and other hospitals besides the civil station. Adequate number of staff be appointed for the maintenance and operation of the lifts and generators. Due to lack of staff, the lifts and generators had fallen into disuse. The convention demanded appointment of staff at the medical college super-speciality department, promotion as per seniority list and the like.
