THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first private FM (frequency modulated) community radio station in the State was launched at a function at Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan on Friday evening.

Radio DC FM 90.4 will broadcast from the media school run by D.C. Kizhekkkemuri Foundation at the Kinfra Film and Video Park at Kazhakoottam.

Ravi Deecee, chief facilitator of the station, told presspersons that the community radio would initially broadcast programmes from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., and it would be increased to 12 hours within two months. Entertainment, career counselling and interactive education programmes and talk shows would be aired.

Shortly, 17 private FM radio stations would come up in the State. Last year, FM radio registered 300 per cent growth in the State. The penetration was bound to increase in the coming years. The main objective of the station was to train students of the school in the production of radio programmes. The radio did not have provision to air commercials, but it would get the nod for it soon, he added.
