Thiruvananthapuram: The city police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old woman on charges of theft from the premises of Attukal Bhagavathy Temple.
According to police, the woman had been identified as S. Latha alias Sreelatha, a resident of Kunnumpurathu Veedu, Alumood, Irumba near Nedumangad.
She was arrested by Sub-Inspector (Fort, Crime) C. Manohara Kumar in connection with the theft of the anklet weighing 2 gm of a child who came to the temple along with her parents.
The accused used to dress smartly to mingle with the crowd and would later steal the gold ornaments.
The police recovered the anklet stolen on Sunday and a gold chain weighing 8 gm from Latha. She was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate II and remanded till January 16.
She was sent to the Central Jail, Poojappura.
According to the police, Latha was earlier arrested in connection of the theft of gold ornaments from among those who came to worship at the Attukal temple and from among those who arrived to see the Flower Show held at the Observatory Hills.
Gold ornaments weighing 20 gm and cash worth Rs.10,000 were stolen from the house of Ashokan residing at Elippode in the Vattiyoorkavu police station limits on Sunday night.
According to the police, the burglars entered the house breaking open the door of the kitchen.
Adalat on January 8
A grievance redressal adalat will be organised at the Nandavanom police camp here from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on January 8 by Inspector General of Police (South Zone) T.P. Sen Kumar. City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham said the citizens residing in the Corporation limits could participate in the adalat.
