KOCHI: A mega musical evening will be organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor on March 1, to honour playback singer K.J. Jesudas and marking the Golden Jubilee of Malayalam film songs.
The event will have 21 singers including Jesudas, K.P. Udayabhanu, P. Jayachandran, P. Susheela, S. Janaki and a host of up-and-coming singers, among others, said District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, who is also the organising committee chairman of the event.
Mr. Hanish told a press conference here on Thursday that the event, organised by the District Administration, Department of Tourism and the cultural organisation Swaralaya, would trace the evolution of Malayalam film songs from 1955 to 2005.
The event will be directed by film music composer M. Jayachandran and the songs selected by composer M.K. Arjunan.
A 40-member orchestra team will be the major attraction of the music nite, titled `Dasettanu Snehapoorvam.'
The stage for the event will be designed by M. Rajeev Kumar and Sreekath Murali.
The singers will present super hit songs from the history of Malayalam cinema. Visuals from the scenes of each song will be projected at the beginning of the songs.
The event will begin with a 30-minute fusion music medley by Attukal Bala Subramanyam. It will be followed by Jesudas rendering a song, paying homage to the masters, including veteran music composer V. Dakshinamoorthy.
The music nite will begin with Jesudas's first song Jaathibhedam... in the film `Kaalppadukal,' set to music by M.B. Sreenivasan.
The event will be inaugurated by actor Mammootty. Jesudas will be presented with a citation and mementoes from various cultural organisations. Admission to the event will be open to the public.
While the gallery seats will be free, entry to the ground pavilion will be restricted through passes.
The programme will last four hours, starting from 6.30 p.m.
