PANAJI: Fundacao Oriente, a Lisbon-based cultural, philanthropic and social organisation, is working on a heritage conservation project titled "Reanimation Kochin" in collaboration with the Kerala Government and the Our Lady of Hope Church, Vypeen.

The project, with an investment of Rs.20 lakhs, envisages development of tourist circuits of Portuguese presence in Kochi, said Sergio Mascarenhas de Alemida, director, Fundacao Oriente in Goa. Fundacao is taking the help of tourism industry in the State and the services of people of Goa and local Keralites in the implementation of the project.

"We have identified structures, chapels, churches, civil buildings of historical significance to construct the circuits," de Almeida said. The project beginning next month will be completed by September this year so that it could be thrown open to tourists during next season.

Fundacao Oriente is in possession of a collection of 40-odd original works of the celebrated Goan painter Trindade and his daughter Angela and an adequate place is being identified in Goa for a permanent art gallery to display them.

Replying to a question, de Almeida said the activities of Fundacao Oriente were being carried out in Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi and Daman and Diu.

In sports, its future plans include football matches of the Sporting Club of Portugal in India on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the club.
