THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Trivandrum Bar Association has urged the Government to take up the proposal to set up a High Court Bench with filing jurisdiction in the capital city at the earliest.

A State capital without the State's highest judicial institution is a disadvantage, association secretary Punchakkary G. Raveendran Nair, told mediapersons here on Thursday.

The demand for a High Court Bench with filing powers in the State capital was a long-standing one.

Mr. Raveendran Nair said the Bar Association in alliance with various social oraganisations would stage a dharna in front of the Secretariat on Saturday to press its demand.

"Very recently, a Bench of the Chennai High Court had started functioning in Madurai.

The Bangalore High Court also has a Bench in Hubli. Both these were made possible through the initiative of the Chief Ministers of the respective States," he said.
