To showcase a variety of cultural and literary programmes

KONDOTTY: Vaidyar Mahotsavam began at the Moyinkutty Vaidyar Memorial Centre here on Friday evening. The three-day festival in memory of Moyinkutty Vaidyar, Mapila poet, will have a variety of cultural and literary programmes.

Abdusamad Samadani, MP, inaugurated the festival. K.N.A. Khader, MLA and chairman of Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Memorial Committee, presided over the function. M.M. Basheer, writer, delivered the Vaidyar Memorial Lecture.

Calicut University Registrar P.P. Mohammed, writers P.K. Parakkadavu and K.P. Sudheera were among those who spoke. Azad Wandoor, secretary of the memorial committee, welcomed the gathering. C.R. Rajmohan, district information officer, proposed a vote of thanks.

Historian M.G.S. Narayanan will inaugurate a seminar on the `Challenges faced by cultural Kerala' on Saturday morning.

Local Administration Minister K. Kutty Ahamed Kutty will inaugurate a seminar on the `Contributions of Muslim community.'

T.K. Hamza, MP, will inaugurate a cultural meeting in the evening.

District panchayat president Arimbra Mohammed will preside over the function.
