CPI(M) warns against code violationTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI(M) State secretariat has urged the Government to stick to the model code of conduct and not sign the agreement with Dubai Internet City (DIC) for the `Smart City' project. In a statement here on Thursday, the CPI(M) secretariat said signing of the `Smart City' agreement would amount to clear violation of the model code of conduct. It noted that political parties, including the CPI(M), and individual leaders had opposed the project proposal mainly on account of their concern about the possibility of the agreement resulting in lack of transparency in the implementation of the project. ExtendedTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has extended the time allowed for merging the arrears of the DA sanctioned to employees from 1997 with the provident fund. According to the GO(P) no.93/2006/Fin issued on February 28, it can be done with the salary bills for the months up to June. The order covers the instalments of DA sanctioned with effect from July 1997 and with effect from January and July of 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. Special Correspondent

NTSE examinationsTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SCERT has published the list of candidates who have been selected to appear for the National Talent Search Examination to be held on May 14 at the SRV Government Model HSS, Ernakulam. These candidates have been selected from the State-level NTSE conducted in 36 centres on November 27, 2005. The NCERT will send the admit card and other details directly to the selected candidates. Appointed MDTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K.B. Sasikumar has been appointed Managing Director of the Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants. He is at present one of its directors. The Government had reconstituted the Board of Directors of the company in January. Mar Chrysostom to be honouredPATHANAMTHITTA: The Niranom-Maramon diocese unit of the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam (MTYS), youth wing of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, is to honour the Church head Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Metropolitan at a function to be held at the Old Pulatheen at the Church headquarters in Thiruvalla on Saturday evening. In a statement here, MTYS diocesan secretary Binu V. Eapen said Mar Chrysostom, 87, has achieved the distinction of becoming the longest-serving Metropolitan of a Malankara Syrian Church. - Staff Reporter

Speed governors launchedKOLLAM: R. Balakrishna Pillai, former Minister for Transport, launched a new brand of indigenously manufactured speed governors. The brand, `Speed Check' is manufactured by Mumbai-based Eastern Auto Tech Ltd. Prompt Technologies of Kochi are the authorised dealers.

At a press conference here on Thursday, representatives from the manufacturing and distributing companies said that the Automotive Research Association of India, following comprehensive tests, had formally approved `Speed Check.' Major automobile manufacturers such as the Tatas, Ashok Leyland and Eicher have approved the product.
