Thiruvananthapuram: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) member S. Varghese on Wednesday visited the house of Thankachi who was run over by a KSRTC bus at Cheenivila in Vattappara police station limits on Tuesday afternoon.

The commission recorded the statement of the relatives of Thankachi who was allegedly killed by the bus driver who "suddenly" reversed the vehicle while she was crossing the road. Thankachi was knocked down and crushed under the rear wheel of the vehicle. The incident occurred after she had alighted from the bus.

The police suspect the driver, Balachandran, to have killed Thankachi for giving a complaint against him to the local KSRTC depot authorities. The KSRTC has suspended Balachandran from service after the incident. The police are yet to arrest the driver who is suspected to be absconding.

Meanwhile, the body of Thankachi was cremated in the compound of her house. The police were also conducting an inquiry into the charge that an IPS officer, who passed that way when the incident occurred, had misbehaved with the neighbours and relatives of the victim.
