KANNUR: Founder chairman and managing director, Keltron group of companies, K.P.P. Nambiar was felicitated at Keltron Nagar here on Wednesday on his being conferred with the Padmabhushan.
The former technocrat had set up Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (KSEDC) under the aegis of which a chain of Keltron units had been opened across the State.
Mr. Nambiar, who is recovering from a paralytic stroke, was accorded a reception by the management and employees of the four Keltron units at Mangatuparamba. The Keltron management officials and staff escorted Mr. Nambiar, in his wheelchair, to the venue of the function.
Mr. Nambiar, who was born in Kallyasseri village, pursued his technical education in England. He returned to India in 1963 as scientist pool officer and taught at the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi.
Later, he joined Tata to set up the Industrial Electronics Research and Development Laboratory under the Tata Power Company. He served as a member of the Science Advisory Committee to the Union Cabinet and as chairman and MD of Indian Telephone Industries Ltd., Bangalore, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Electronics. After his retirement in 1989, he was appointed Honorary Special Adviser to the State Government. Mr. Nambiar, who conceived and founded Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, has won many awards. V. Ramkumar, KSEDC managing director and chairman of Keltron group of companies here, presided over the function. B. Sasidharan Nair, managing director of Keltron Components and Complex Ltd. welcomed the gathering. Mr. Nambiar was presented a citation and memento at the function. In his address, Mr. Nambiar thanked the manangement and staff for felicitating him.
His wife, Umadevi Nambiar, was also present at the function. E. Raveendran (Keltron Employees Association), P.V. Raveendran (Keltron Employees Union), P. Vijayakumaran (Keltron Employees Organisation), A.V. Mohanan (Keltron Executives Association) and P. Bhaskaran (Keltron Club) offered felicitations.
