KOZHIKODE: A two-day summer camp `Ullsa paravakal' organised for school students at the S.K. Pottekkat Cultural Centre here from March 30 provided a breather for the children after the year-long academic routine.

The camp was conducted in an ambience free of competition and provided an opportunity for the students to relax as they started their two-month summer vacation. There was a sizable increase in the number of participants when compared to a similar camp last year.

Cine star Babu Swamy inaugurated the camp and Pottekkat Cultural Centre secretary P.M.V. Panikker presided.

Drawing teacher K. Sudeesh, playwright Purushan Kadalundi were among those who spoke at the inaugural session. Students in classes I to IX participated in the camp.

Clay modelling was a highly popular activity in which the 200-odd children, attending the camp, participated with great enthusiasm. The Thrissur-based sculptor M.K. Johnson guided the children in crafting the models. Papputty (Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad) delivered a lecture on astronomy. Vijayan Karanthur addressed the session on poetry and folk song.

A magic show by Pradeep Houdno was also conducted. Certificates were distributed to the participants. A registration fee of Rs.40 was charged for each participant. Food, paper for drawing and art material were provided by the organisers.
