Memorial for ThikkurissiTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Health P.K. Sreemathy has said the late Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair, one of the great artistes Kerala had produced, deserved a fitting monument to perpetuate his memory. She made this observation while giving away the television and media awards instituted by the Thikkurissi Foundation at a function here on Sunday. Agriculture Minister Mullakara Ratnakaran released a video film produced by the foundation on the life of Thikkurissi on and off the stage and movie screen. The winners of the television awards are: Prasad Nooranad, M.G. Sasi, R. Gopalakrishnan, Chandra Bose, Vijayan Palazhi, G. Sivakumar, Dileep Charummoodu, Jayakrishnan Muthukulam, Salil Makkuzhi, Munjinad Padmakumar and Udayan Vavvakkavu. The stage awards are for Thombil Rajasekharan, Pallimon Jayakumar, Alappuzha Vivekanandan, Anu Kadammanitta, Chilambil Jalil, Vettinad Sreekumar, S. Vijayakumar and Mayyanad Rafi. Farm Commission to visit StateThiruvananthapuram: The National Farm Commission will be visiting the State for discussions on the National Farm Policy. The delegation includes member of the panel R.B. Singh, member-secretary Atul Sinha, and Director Mamta Sankar. Farm loan review panels to be formedThiruvananthapuram: The State Government has decided to set up panchayat level farm loan review committees to ensure that farm loans are properly utilised. In a statement here on Sunday, Cooperative registrar V. Reghunath said that the panchayat level committee would have the panchayat president as chairman and the unit inspector as convener. He said that orders had been issued fixing an interest rate of 5.5 per cent for farm loans up to Rs.1 lakh. The interest rate would be 6 per cent for farm loans between Rs.1 lakh to Rs. 3 lakhs. Girl killed in accidentPATHANAMTHITTA: A seven-year-old girl, identified as Suhra of Kattoor Puthoorpettah near Kozhencherry, was killed in a road accident at Kulashekharapati on the Pathanamthitta-Kumbazha Road near here on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was knocked down by a speeding jeep around 4 p.m. A 40-year-old man travelling in the jeep was admitted to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital with head injuries.
