KOCHI: In view of the continuing row over custodial deaths in the State, the district unit of the Kerala Police Association, an organisation of the constabulary, is organising a seminar on `Facts behind custodial deaths.'
The seminar will be held at the Town Hall at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Senior police officers and leaders of the association will speak.
Association State general secretary C.P. Kunjukunj said the association condemned any custodial death or torture and would never support violations of an individual's rights by the police personnel.
He, however, said most of the recent custodial deaths were due to natural causes.
Unlike the death of Udayakumar in the Fort police station in Thiruvananthapuram last year, the present deaths were not due to police torture.
He said the association expelled those accused in the Udayakumar murder and cautioned its members against any third-degree methods.
The association organised a series of seminars in the State to prevent tortures in the wake of Udayakumar's death.
