KOZHIKODE: The highlight of day two of the District Tourism Promotion Council's Onam celebrations in Kozhikode was `Kavya Sameeksha,' a visual presentation of Malayalam poetry through the ages involving music and dance. The programme, directed by Kanakadas, featured many great poets, beginning with Ezhuthachan. Some well-known poems were recited and a few others choreographed. There was a sizeable audience on Government Model HSS ground on Tuesday night to watch the two-hour show.

It got off with Changampuzha's `Kavya Narthaki.' The works which were visualised included `Chandalabhikshuki' (Kumaranasan), `Krishnagatha' (Cherusseri), `Perunthachan' (G. Sankara Kurup), `Poothappattu' (Edassery) and `Puthiya Kattalan' (P.K. Gopi). Irayimman Thampi's `Omana thinkal kidavo... ' and the Swati Tirunal kriti `Gopalaka pahimam... ' were performed as Mohiniyattom pieces. Tributes were also paid to Poonthanam, P. Kunhiraman Nair, O.N.V. Kurup, Akkitham, Ayyappa Panicker and Kavalam Narayana Panicker.

The show was performed by nearly 60 artistes of the Perambra-based Malayalam Theatrical Heritage and Arts. Some of them, like Babitha, who excelled in both recitation and emoting, Santhosh, Lishna and Snigdha, were impressive. The show was choreographed by Rajani Palackal, while the music was by K. Surendran.
