Thiruvananthapuram: Young director Sohanlal is back in the limelight again, this time with a tele-cinema based on Kamala Suraiyya's famous book `Neermathalam pootha kaalam', a poignant expression of her childhood memories.
Titled `Neermathalathinte Pookkal', the tele-cinema was among the bouquet of programmes for Thiruvonam aired on the Amrita TV channel on Tuesday.
Praveena appears on screen as Kamala Suraiyya in her thirties. Kishore Sathya and Gowri are the supporting artistes. Screenplay and dialogues are by Sreevaraham Balakrishnan and Sohanlal. Udayan Ambadi wields the camera and Ramesh Narayanan scores the music. Art direction is by Rishi.
The Nalappat ancestral house at Punnayoorkulam in Thrissur provides the location for the film. "Kamala Suraiyya is the Malayali's favourite writer. The Nalappat house and the pomegranate tree featured in `Neermathalam pootha kaalam' have found a permanent place in every reader's heart. My effort was to capture and maintain the nostalgic mood created by Kamala Suraiyya," says Mr.Sohanlal who is a programme producer with Amrita TV.
Sohanlal had made news in 1999 with his earlier work titled `Pedakam' based on Guy de Maupassant's story. That work won him many awards.
